Flavour 9 (Flavours of Life)

Blog 10/Flavour 9

The Ninth Flavour of Life is "SELF-CONTROL"

The last flavour of life is self-control. Self-control is defined as,  The ability to control oneself, in particular one's emotions and desires, especially in difficult situations.

Here is a common and easy example to understand self-control, If an athlete wants to win in a running race, he or she wants to be controlled in particular things like food items, personal discipline, time management etc., unless he/she has that personal discipline, it is impossible to win the race. It is not only applicable for an athlete but each and every one of us has a certain goal to achieve in our life. In order to achieve it, we need to be self-control.

Self-control is a physical and mental discipline which we need to practice in our life.

Scheduled Life: Nowadays we all are living in a scheduled life, if we are facing difficult to live in this scheduled life, there is something we have to understand that we are out of control. There we have to monitor and we have to bring it in control.
“I cannot trust a man to control others
who cannot control himself.”

― Robert E. Lee
Be self-control to be happy: We should have control over our desires, uncontrolled desires may be considered as greed.
Researchers have found that people who have better self-control tend to be healthier and happier.

Self-control gives us satisfaction in our life. If we run out of control. it will not give us satisfaction even if we did so many things. We have to be clear in what we are doing.
“Self-control is the chief element in self-respect,
and self-respect is the chief element in courage.”

― Thucydides,

We need an attentive mind about our regular daily practices. if we fail to concentrate pay attention to our daily activities it will be an out of control.
“The is a secret for greater self-control,

the science points to one thing: the power of paying attention.”

― Kelly McGonigal

Identify where we need to be controlled: We have to self examine our selves to identify where we are lagging to control ourselves. It will help us to identify to list our priority.

Find your Goal: Every one of us a have some goal to achieve, Take a clear picture of what is your goal.

Self-examine your actions: Self-examine yourself and identify where you are out of control in travelling towards your goal.

Get your will power: Get the will power and motivate your self to resist the things out of control and develop your self-control.

Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control. -Bible

Gentleness is acting in a manner that is gentle and mild even-tempered.   we often hear this word "gentleman". It is an honourable way of referring to a man. It means the man who behaves gently or mildly in any situation not forcefully or roughly.  The flavour 8 of flavours of life gentleness gives an understanding of handling situations. The ac...

Now we are in the 6th blog if this series Flavour 5 The Fifth Flavour Of Life Is "KINDNESS" Dear friends, we are living in a world where different kinds of people around us, we are not living a monastic life to exclude us from this world. Our culture and circumstances allow us to live in harmony with others. This flavour 5 plays a major role in bringing harmony among us. What is kindness? Kindness is the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate. Why is Kindness important?  We have some bonding with each and every one of us. We are sharing our thoughts, we are sharing our belongings. Kindness plays a role in the way we are communicating with others. Communication without kindness may not be proper communication. It will be just information. Hence if we want to communicate properly we have to communicate with kindness.  “ Remember there’s no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end .” ...

As I mentioned before all these life characters are interlinked. It is difficult to practice one single flavour to implement in our life. Today's flavour of 'Patience' is mostly connected with  yesterday's flavour . If we started understanding the peace in us then it is easy to practice this patience, it is also another flavour of life which we need to discuss separately.  “Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet.” Aristotle     DEFINITION: Patience is t he capacity to accept or tolerate delay, problems, or suffering without becoming annoyed or anxious. Patience is one of the best qualities which we need to develop in our life. ...
